A fatal multi-vehicle crash involving a truck claimed one life and left two others injured at Kara Bridge, inward Mowe-Ibafo, on Friday, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has said.
In a statement issued by the agency’s Head of Public Affairs, Olawale Afolabi, LASEMA said its emergency response team arrived at the scene at about 5:46 a.m. after receiving reports of a truck accident that blocked a major section of the expressway.
According to the agency, the truck, loaded with bags of monosodium glutamate, suffered brake failure, causing the driver to lose control before the vehicle overturned and obstructed about 75 percent of the carriageway.
The crash triggered a chain-reaction collision involving four other vehicles—a Toyota Sienna, a mini truck conveying paint, a flatbed truck carrying imported plywood and another fully loaded truck.
The impact spilled paint and plywood sheets across the road, worsening traffic congestion in the area.

LASEMA said an adult male was trapped beneath the overturned truck and was confirmed dead at the scene. His body was recovered by emergency responders and handed over to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for evacuation.
Two other adult males sustained minor injuries and received immediate treatment at the scene.
The agency said responders secured the accident site and implemented traffic control measures to prevent further incidents and ease the heavy gridlock.
It added that two private tow trucks were deployed to remove the damaged vehicles and clear the obstruction, while the operation was coordinated with the FRSC, the Nigeria Police Force and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
LASEMA noted that recovery efforts were ongoing to remove the affected vehicles, clear the spilled cargo and restore free flow of traffic.
The agency advised motorists to obey traffic diversions, comply with instructions from emergency officials and maintain safe speeds while approaching the Kara Bridge corridor.
LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, commiserated with the family of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
He also praised the professionalism of emergency responders and the cooperation of motorists during the rescue and recovery operation, reaffirming the agency’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property through prompt emergency response across Lagos State.
