The All Progressives Congress Ward Congress Committee in Ondo has given its verdict — the exercise passed the test with flying colours.
After gathering results trickling in from the 18 local government areas of the Sunshine State, the committee declared the ward congress a smooth sail rather than stormy waters.
Speaking in Akure shortly after receiving reports from returning officers at the party secretariat, the committee’s chairperson, Mrs. Margaret Aruruenu, described the exercise as orderly and credible. The congress, held across all 203 wards, unfolded without major drama, she said.
“The congress has been conducted and everything has been concluded. We are happy that it was peaceful and concluded.
“It took place in all the 18 local government areas in the state. We appreciate all the returning officers for serving the party diligently,” she stated.
According to her, while minor ripples were recorded in a few quarters, the process largely flowed without friction, proving that the party machinery was well-oiled and disciplined.
Backing her position, the committee’s secretary, Mr. Smart Iheazor, maintained that the exercise ticked every box in the party’s rulebook.
“The exercise was in total compliance with the guidelines of our party that were given to the committee to conduct this ward election. It was hitch-free.
“Thursday (today) is going to be a day that the appeal committee will be sitting. I’m assuring you that no person will bring any petition to challenge this election, which was very free, fair, credible and transparent,” he said.
Iheazor acknowledged that reports of isolated disturbances reached the committee’s desk, but insisted none cast a shadow over the integrity of the congress.
Party faithful, he added, turned out in their numbers and expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise — a sign, according to officials, that the internal democratic engine of the party is still firing on all cylinders.
