Okpebholo Swears in New Chairmen for Edo Ecology, Electricity Commissions

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, on Thursday swore in Terry Igiebor as Chairman of the Ecological Funding and Management Commission and Prof. David Osifo as a member of the commission.

The governor also inaugurated Dr Shittu Shaibu as Chairman of the Edo State Electricity Regulatory Commission, alongside Thomas Inegbedion, Abdulrask Abubakar, Alex Oniawu and Patrick Iluobe as members.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony at the Government House in Benin, Okpebholo congratulated the appointees and charged them to take their responsibilities seriously.

He described their assignments as demanding, particularly the electricity commission, which he said would play a critical role in expanding access to electricity and supporting the state’s development.

“The task before you is enormous. It is going to be difficult, but with your determination, we can achieve whatever we want to achieve”.

If we work together and work hard, we can achieve whatever we want to achieve so that we can have a common goal in the electricity sector,” he said.

Okpebholo noted that several investors had expressed interest in Edo, stressing that the state needed sound policies to attract and sustain investments in the electricity sector.

He urged the new officials to remain dedicated and focused on delivering on their mandates.

“A lot of stakeholders are coming in; they are assuring us of coming to invest. If we have good policies in place that will drive the process, then we will have whatever we desire. Please be dedicated and focused on your duties,” the governor said.

Responding on behalf of the Ecological Funding and Management Commission, Igiebor thanked the governor for the appointment, describing it as a rare privilege.

He assured Okpebholo that the commission would work to advance his SHINE Agenda and deliver results that would make the governor proud at the end of their tenure.

Similarly, Shaibu, speaking on behalf of the Electricity Regulatory Commission, pledged to draw on their experience to transform the state’s electricity sector.

He said the appointments were based on merit and promised that the commission would bring its wealth of experience at the national level to bear on its work in Edo.

Shaibu said the commission would work to make Edo “the shining star of Nigeria.”
