President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Anambra State chapter, Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu, has called on residents to seize the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise to get their voter cards ahead of the November 8, 2025 governorship election.
Speaking after inspecting the exercise in Nando Wards 1–3, Okpalaezeukwu decried the low voter turnout in past elections, noting that only 250,000 out of 2.5 million registered voters participated in the 2021 poll that brought Governor Chukwuma Soludo to power.
He warned that continued voter apathy could weaken Anambra’s political relevance and urged citizens to take the CVR seriously.
“The statistics from the last election are worrying. Our political strength as Ndi Anambra is tied to our participation. If we remain indifferent, we’ll continue to be sidelined nationally,” he said.
INEC commenced the CVR on July 8 across all 326 wards in the state, with a central hub at its Awka headquarters. The exercise caters to new registrants, transfers, replacements, and data corrections.
Okpalaezeukwu said Ohaneze has mobilized its structures at the grassroots and intensified media campaigns to boost participation.
“Your voter card is your power to influence governance. Get it. Use it,” he urged.
