Supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State on Thursday staged a rally in Ilorin, protesting what they described as the political victimisation of the party’s leader, Bukola Saraki, over the 2018 Offa bank robbery incident.
The rally, led by PDP youths, moved through major streets of Ilorin before converging at the forecourt of the Emir’s palace. Addressing the crowd, the state PDP Youth Leader, Adio Odunjo, argued that attempts to link Saraki to the robbery were politically motivated and should be withdrawn in the interest of peace within the Ilorin Emirate.
Odunjo maintained that the Offa robbery case had already been investigated and concluded through due legal processes, questioning why the matter was being revisited.
He stated that the Nigeria Police Force had conducted a thorough investigation and that legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution found no evidence connecting Saraki to the crime.
According to him, suspects in the case were prosecuted, trials completed, and judgments upheld on appeal, stressing that reopening the issue suggests political motives rather than a pursuit of justice.
The youths described Saraki as a key political figure with notable contributions to Kwara State and Nigeria, warning against what they termed attempts to tarnish his reputation despite legal clearance.
They also called on Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to exercise restraint and focus on governance, urging that any legitimate legal matters should be handled transparently and without political interference.
