NYSC DG Urges Corps Members to Embrace Orientation, Entrepreneurship Training

—

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, has urged corps members deployed to Rivers to actively participate in orientation activities to prepare them for national service.

Nafiu made the call on Monday while addressing members of the 2026 Batch C Stream I at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Nonwa-Gbam, Tai Local Government Area of Rivers.

He encouraged the corps members to adapt positively to the rigorous camp activities, noting that the program was designed to equip them with the skills and discipline needed to become responsible leaders.

“I urge you to take the in-camp and post-camp Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program seriously to create sustainable wealth through multiple sources of income,” he said.

The NYSC boss advised the corps members to remain security-conscious, avoid night travel, and refrain from misusing social media or engaging in other activities that could expose them to danger.

He also urged them to remain apolitical, honest, and credible while serving as ad hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the 2027 general elections.

Nafiu stressed the need for integrity and professionalism in the discharge of their duties and other responsibilities.

He disclosed that the Federal Government had approved an upward review of corps members’ feeding allowances during orientation camping.

He added that arrangements had been activated to improve the quality of corps members’ kits, with implementation expected to begin in 2027.

Meanwhile, the NYSC Coordinator in Rivers, Mr Moses Oleghe, announced that Gov. Siminalayi Fubara had approved an immediate increase in corps members’ allowances in the state.

Oleghe said corps members posted to urban areas would receive N20,000, while those serving in rural communities would receive N35,000.

“This increment, alongside other achievements, forms part of the milestones recorded by the Fubara administration,” he said.

The Acting Director of the NYSC South-South Area Office II, Port Harcourt, Mrs Olayinka Nasamu, was also part of the delegation.
