Brigadier General Ahmed explained that his purpose in visiting was to assess the NYSC orientation camp in Borno state and to gauge the activities and well-being of Corps members.
This camp had been closed for over a decade due to insurgency in the state, and its recent reopening marked a significant step forward.
He expressed satisfaction that since the camp’s reopening, there had been no security threats or reported complaints.
Additionally, he acknowledged the significant support and collaboration provided by the Division in terms of personnel for training and security at the camp, as well as for the welfare and moral support extended to Corps members deployed in the Division.
In response, Brigadier General Abubakar Haruna, the GOC 7 Division and Commander Sector 1 Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), reflected on the challenges the NYSC scheme faced in ensuring the safety and well-being of Corps members in the state due to insurgency activities.
He noted, however, that with the relative peace in the state and the camp’s reopening, they were currently hosting the 4th batch of trainees, a testament to the improved security situation.
Brigadier General Haruna took the opportunity to reassure the DG, parents, prospective Corps members, and other stakeholders that Borno was now safe and secure for NYSC training. He emphasized that there was no cause for panic at any level.
The visit was marked by speeches, an interactive session, the exchange of souvenirs, and group photographs.
