The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Borno state has taken significant actions against 42 individuals involved in various activities that threaten the peace of the region.Â
At a press conference held in Maiduguri, State Commandant Musa Boyi disclosed that the apprehended suspects, predominantly youths, were engaged in offenses ranging from vandalism to illegal activities.
Commandant Boyi highlighted that 14 of the individuals were arrested for vandalizing critical national assets and participating in the illicit metal scrap business, commonly known as “ajaokuta.” This business had been banned by the Borno state government.
The NSCDC also intercepted a truck carrying scrap iron, arresting four suspects, including the driver, for violating state laws.
He said ” State Governor, emphasized that the state had issued a directive to ban all ajaokuta businesses within Borno, but some individuals continued to defy this order, jeopardizing the state’s security. ”
The Commandant stressed that those arrested would face legal consequences, adhering to the law.
Additionally, the NSCDC took action against 16 suspects involved in gangsterism, terrorizing innocent members of the public.
Weapons such as knives and daggers were seized from people, underscoring the threat they posed to community safety.
Farouq Boyi further disclosed that seven individuals were apprehended for forging token cards related to government-issued palliatives.
These arrests signify the commitment of the NSCDC to combating various forms of criminal activities that undermine the well-being and security of the state’s residents.
