NSCDC, NIS Commit to Sustaining Collaboration Towards Improving Security in Anambra

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in Anambra State, have vowed commitment towards deepening collaboration between the two agencies to support ongoing efforts at improving security in the state.

The State NSCDC Commandant, Maku Olatunde, and the State Comptroller of Immigration, Mr. Umerah Timothy Nwanegbo, agreed to sustain collaboration during a familiarization visit by the latter to the NSCDC State Command Headquarters, Awka.

The visit emphasized the importance of synergy among security agencies for effective intelligence sharing, coordination, and rapid response to emerging threats.

Receiving his guests, the State NSCDC Commandant, Maku, promised the Comptroller of Immigration of the Command’s readiness to sustain and strengthen the long-standing cordial relationship between both agencies.

He reaffirmed that the NSCDC remains ready to discharge its core mandates, as established by law, and provide necessary support whenever called upon, in the interest of national development and public safety.

“It is my pleasure to receive you and your team today. I am glad you have followed the footsteps of your predecessor by establishing contact with sister security agencies. Be assured that I am going to extend the same hand of fellowship in sustaining the tradition of high synergy among agencies,” he said.

The NSCDC helmsman also gave the assurances that the command will continue to collaborate with stakeholders to ensure Anambra State remains peaceful and conducive for residents and businesses.

He highlighted the NSCDC’s role in protecting Critical National Assets; disaster management; anti-vandalism; regulating private security guards; crisis management; school safety; mediating between farmers and herders; and intelligence gathering to support internal security.

Commandant Maku said that in view of the Corps’ astounding performance, the President has recently assigned the Corps additional roles, including protecting VIPs across the country.

In his remarks, CIS Nwanegbo Timothy emphasized the importance of interagency collaboration and pledged continued cooperation to address contemporary security challenges.

The State Comptroller of Immigration explained that the visit aimed to strengthen working relationships with sister security agencies and ensure seamless information sharing among key stakeholders on state security issues.

He noted that, since the NSCDC and the Nigeria Immigration Service are under the same Ministry of the Interior, both agencies need to combine resources and expertise to prevent crime effectively.

“We belong to the same family under the Ministry of Interior, and it is imperative we close ranks and work together for the benefit of citizens,” he stated.

The visit concluded with renewed assurances of continued partnership to enhance peace and stability in the state.
