Labourer Jailed Three Years for Stabbing Man Over N40,000 Demand in Jos

A Jos Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a 22-year-old laborer, Yahuza Suleiman, to three years’ imprisonment for stabbing a man with a knife after demanding N40,000 from him.

Suleiman, who pleaded guilty to causing hurt, was convicted on Tuesday by Magistrate Irene Pati.

The court sentenced him to three years in prison with an option of a N200,000 fine.

Magistrate Pati also ordered the convict to pay the victim N100,000 in compensation or serve an additional four months in prison if he defaults.

Earlier, prosecutor Inspector Ibrahim Gokwat told the court that the incident was reported on May 31 at the Nasarawa Gwong Police Station by the complainant, Ahmad Abdullahi.

According to the prosecutor, Suleiman accosted Abdullahi by the roadside, demanded N40,000, and before the victim could respond, stabbed him with a long knife, leaving him with injuries to his right hand and neck.

The prosecution said the offense contravenes the provisions of the Plateau State Penal Code Law.
