Nollywood actor Sylvester Madu has reportedly found himself in a precarious situation, detained by police operatives in Bamenda, Cameroon.

The arrest comes in connection with a tragic incident that unfolded on Saturday, November 23, 2023, where four individuals lost their lives in a shocking shooting at a local beer parlour.

The distressing episode unfolded when unidentified gunmen barged into the lounge where Madu and a small group were socializing around 10 pm.

The ensuing attack resulted in the unfortunate loss of four lives, and more than 10 people sustained serious injuries.

Amid the chaos, military personnel intervened to rescue Madu, but instead of being released, he chose to stand by the four civilians who were also rescued.

In a surprising turn of events, Madu’s insistence on not abandoning those civilians led to his detention. Currently behind bars, he is now slated to face legal proceedings as he has been sent to court.

Reports indicate that Madu, who had come to Cameroon for a film project, remains committed to the individuals he sought to protect, revealing a layer of complexity to the unfolding narrative.

A source close to the situation shed light on Madu’s actions, stating, “He is currently in detention and has been sent to court. He refused to leave the four civilians that were also rescued behind.

He came to Cameroon to shoot a movie.” This statement adds a layer of nuance to the situation, suggesting Madu’s dedication not only to his craft but also to the well-being of those caught in the unfortunate crossfire.

As the story continues to develop, the circumstances surrounding Sylvester Madu’s detention raise questions about the intersection of entertainment, personal responsibility, and unexpected tragedy in the actor’s journey to bring cinematic art to life in Cameroon.
