‘No Known Face left Us,’ Anambra PDP Refutes Claims 1,300 Members Defected to APGA

Hon. Promise Okongwu, the PDP Publicity Secretary in Anambra State

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State on Sunday, debunked the claims that 1,300 members of the party decamped to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), describing them as baseless propaganda.

This narrative, according to the PDP, is a deliberate attempt to mislead the citizens of Anambra state.

Across all APGA social media platforms and some conventional media outlets, the news has trended, of the reception of the alleged decampees by the State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, and the State Chairman of the APGA, Chief Ifeatu Obi-Okoye in Awka, over the weekend.

But Hon. Promise Okongwu, the PDP Publicity Secretary in Anambra State, in a press briefing at the PDP’s mini rally in Awka, emphasized that the supposed APGA event and the accompanying media coverage were designed to undermine the significance of the over 10,000 PDP members who demonstrated their support at the rally.

According to him, the PDP’s structural integrity has remained solid since the 2023 general elections and the party has seen an influx of new members, particularly following the appointment of Engr. Chigozie Igwe as the State Chairman.

He insisted that no notable members or stakeholders have defected to APGA, describing the stories circulating in the media as fabrications of APGA’s propaganda efforts, bearing no resemblance to reality.

“It has been observed that the APGA-led administration under Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has consistently attempted to propagate the false narrative of a weakened PDP through state-controlled media outlets, only for these stories to be proven unfounded.

“Under the leadership of Engr. Chigozie Igwe, the PDP in Anambra State has continued to ascend, attracting silent supporters and acknowledging the tireless dedication of its stakeholders and leaders in their quest to restore governance to the people by 2025.

“The PDP recognizes the anxious tactics of the APGA leadership, particularly those instigated by Mr. Obi Okoye, an expelled PDP member now serving as the APGA State Chairman, in his campaign of retribution against the PDP, a campaign that has yet to gain any traction.

“Furthermore, the PDP is aware of Governor Soludo’s realization that his administration is struggling, prompting the dissemination of false reports about the PDP’s demise to rejuvenate his government’s standing. Nevertheless, the PDP in Anambra State remains steadfast in its refusal to entertain or respond to these tactics,” he said.

Okongwu noted that the Anambra PDP is committed to continuing its strategic engagement with the people and its repositioning initiatives.

He said; “The party vows to persevere in its efforts until it triumphantly returns to Agu Awka in 2025.

“All in all, the People’s Democratic Party in Anambra State commends its members and leaders for their overwhelming turnout at the Anambra PDP mini rally and urges the public to dismiss the fabricated defection story promoted by the APGA-led government as utterly baseless.”
