Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir-Yusuf, personally supervised traffic compliance at Kofar Fanfo Junction, spending more than an hour ensuring motorists obeyed newly installed traffic lights as part of efforts to restore order on the state’s roads.
The governor, accompanied by the Secretary to the State Government, commissioners and other senior officials, monitored traffic on Monday during an enforcement exercise aimed at promoting discipline among road users.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the governor’s spokesman, Sunusi Bature.
During the exercise, Yusuf directed motorists, commercial drivers, tricycle operators and pedestrians to strictly comply with traffic regulations, stressing that obedience to traffic signals was critical to protecting lives and property.
He announced plans to reposition the Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) into a more professional traffic management agency capable of effectively regulating traffic and improving road safety across the state.
According to the governor, the agency will be strengthened to enhance traffic control, enforce road regulations and encourage a culture of compliance among road users.
Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a safer, more orderly and efficient transport system for residents.
He also expressed concern over the reckless behaviour of some motorists and their failure to obey the newly installed traffic lights, describing the situation as unacceptable.
The governor noted that the multi-billion-naira traffic infrastructure should serve its intended purpose rather than become mere decorative installations.
He directed relevant authorities to closely monitor and sanction traffic offenders to ensure strict compliance with road regulations and protect the state’s investment in traffic management infrastructure.
