No COVID-19 patient in Bauchi ICU

—

The Bauchi state government has said that there was no COVID-19 patient in the State’s intensive care units.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Aliyu Maigoro announced this on Wednesday while briefing newsmen on the efforts of the state government to curtail the spread of the virus.

According to him, out of the 182 confirmed cases, 23 have fully recovered and discharged, while 164 patients are currently on treatment with 8 new cases of the virus.

“As of today the 13th May 2020, we don’t have any COVID-19 patient in our intensive care units in Bauchi state. We have not also recorded any severe cases of the virus”

“For detection of COVID-19, you must wait for 14 days to see the level of condition of the patient whether they are exhibiting any symptom of the virus or not. With the review of the protocol on COVID-19 pandemic, the delay in accessing tests from Jos, Plateau state will be minimal”

“Immediately you get the first test result, you can discharge the patient because the new pattern in Nigeria now is that after a patient is tested negative for the first time, the second test will also turn out to be negative. So far, we have not put any of our patient on ventilation since the outbreak of coronavirus disease in the state” he said

On whether pregnant women with coronavirus disease can affect the health of their babies, Dr Maigoro said that the transmission of coronavirus from mother to child based on studies is yet to be proven up till now.

“COVID-19, is a novel disease, meaning, which means, we are still studying it. For the transmission of coronavirus from mother to child which we called vertical transmission, it has not been proven scientifically”, he said.
