The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has unveiled the petrol prices sourced from the Dangote Refinery, which will be sold across various regions in Nigeria.
These prices will differ depending on the state, with the highest cost per litre set at N1,019 in Borno State.
Olufemi Soneye, the NNPC’s spokesperson, confirmed that the pricing would vary by region.
In areas such as Abuja, Sokoto, and Kano, motorists will pay N999.22 per litre of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
Meanwhile, in southern states like Oyo and Rivers, the price will be slightly lower at N960 per litre.
The lowest price in the country is expected to be in Lagos and its surrounding areas, where petrol will sell for N950 per litre.
Soneye clarified that the prices released by the NNPC are estimates for the PMS sourced from the Dangote Refinery, which will be available at NNPC retail stations across the country.
He emphasized that the prices are not set by the government but are instead determined through negotiations between the relevant parties, as outlined in the Petroleum Industry Act.
Additionally, the NNPC disclosed that it paid for the petrol in U.S. dollars for the September 2024 delivery. “The NNPC Ltd can confirm that it is paying Dangote Refinery in USD for September 2024 PMS offtake. Naira transactions will commence on October 1, 2024,” the company said in a statement.
If there are any disputes regarding the quoted prices, the NNPC has pledged to pass on any discounts it receives from the Dangote Refinery to the public, ensuring that Nigerians benefit from any potential reductions.
These prices come on the heels of a disagreement between the NNPC and the Dangote Group.
The NNPC had previously claimed it was selling petrol at N898 per litre, but the Dangote Group disputed this figure and did not release an official price list at the time.
The announced prices are expected to remain in effect at NNPC retail stations across Nigeria, based on the Dangote Refinery’s pricing for September 2024.
