Nigeria’s Economy Has Recovered, Security Improving Under Tinubu — Presidency President Bola Tinubu has declared that Nigeria’s economy has recovered, while security operations across the country are producing better results through improved coordination among security and intelligence agencies.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this on Tuesday after leading members of the National Communications Team to a meeting with the President at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The delegation comprised members of the Presidential Media Team and heads of key government information agencies, including the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), the Voice of Nigeria (VON) and the National Orientation Agency (NOA).
Idris said the meeting reviewed public perceptions of government policies and provided an opportunity for the President to offer fresh guidance on the administration’s communication strategy.
“We thought it is important to continuously talk to Mr President, to hear from him and to tell him what we are doing,” the minister said.
According to Idris, the engagement also enabled the communications team to relay feedback from Nigerians on government policies while strengthening efforts to improve public information.
He said President Tinubu expressed confidence that the administration’s economic reforms were beginning to yield tangible results and had placed the country on the path to sustained growth.
“The President has told us several times the economy is turning the corner. We now know that the economy has turned the corner,” Idris said.
The minister added that the President acknowledged that security challenges still exist in parts of the country but maintained that ongoing operations were recording significant progress.
“Government is strategising and working with the security agencies. You can see the better coordination this time around,” Idris said.
He attributed the improved synergy among security and intelligence agencies to President Tinubu’s leadership and commitment to restoring peace and stability across the country.
Idris said the President also stressed the importance of maintaining regular engagement with Nigerians to ensure government policies are properly understood and that public feedback continues to shape decision-making.
On media relations, the minister said Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to press freedom while urging journalists to uphold professionalism and responsibility in their reporting.
“The media will continue to have freedom to do their work. But freedom also has to come with responsibility,” Idris quoted the President as saying.
He added that Tinubu called for stronger collaboration between government and the media to combat fake news, misinformation and disinformation, especially with the increasing influence of artificial intelligence on information dissemination.
