Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has called on the private sector and philanthropic individuals to increase investment in education to complement the government’s efforts at rebuilding the state’s education system after years of insurgency.
The governor made the appeal on Wednesday during the commissioning of Noble Scholars Nursery and Primary School, a privately owned institution established by an indigenous daughter of Borno State, Hajiya Yakaka Bukar Mandara, in Maiduguri.
Zulum described the establishment of the school as a significant contribution to the development of education in the state, saying it aligns with the government’s commitment to expanding access to quality learning opportunities.
He stressed that government alone can no longer shoulder the responsibility of providing educational institutions, emphasizing the need for stronger collaboration with the private sector.

“In the 21st century, it is no longer sustainable for government alone to shoulder the responsibility of providing educational institutions without the active support and partnership of the private sector,” the governor said.
He noted that the location of the school in the outskirts of Maiduguri would help promote educational growth and improve access to quality education for children in the area.
Congratulating the proprietress, Zulum described her investment as a commitment to the future of Borno’s children and the overall development of society.
“On behalf of the government and good people of Borno State, I congratulate the proprietress for this remarkable achievement. This school will positively impact the lives of our people and contribute meaningfully to educational development in the state,” he said before officially commissioning the institution.
The governor expressed confidence that Noble Scholars Nursery and Primary School would provide quality education and nurture future leaders.
Earlier, the proprietress, Hajiya Yakaka Bukar Mandara, said the vision behind the school was to provide an environment where children could receive both Western and Islamic education under one roof.
She explained that the school was established to complement government efforts by making quality education both affordable and accessible.
“People often say schools of this standard are only found in Abuja. I believe Maiduguri also deserves such institutions to complement the mega schools established by the government and ensure quality education is within reach of everyone,” she said.
Yakaka also appreciated Governor Zulum for honoring the invitation and officially commissioning the school.
The governor was accompanied to the event by the member representing Marte/Monguno/Nganzai Federal Constituency, Hon. Bukar Talba, the Acting Chief of Staff, Dr. Babagana Mustapha Malumbe, commissioners, special advisers, and other senior government officials.
