Nigerians Gripped By a Broken System

Never in the wildest imagination of even the most jaundiced mind that a flourishing country, so blessed with abundant natural and human resources would descend to a level of being the poverty capital of the world in the midst of plenty.

The Federal Government of the day has transformed deceit and lies as its working tools in the absence of truth. Idiots, clowns and sycophants are usually gathered in the most available space just to witness defections as an achievement of the government, while its core responsibilities are abandoned.

It was on a Sunday, January 18, 2026, that bandits stormed Churches at Kurmin Wali, Kajuru local government area of Kaduna State and ferried away 177 persons during Sunday service. The following Monday, Chairman Northern Christians Association of Nigeria, Rev. John Hayab, hurriedly raised an alarm for prompt action by government to rescue the victims.

Unsurprisingly, Kaduna State Government in collaboration with Kaduna State Police Command dismissed the sad story with a wave of hand, describing it as false and misleading. The State Police Commissioner, Muhammed Rabi’u said the report was being peddled by “conflict entrepreneurs” bent on causing chaos in the state, and even warned rumor mongers to desist from spreading the unverified claims, threatening that the full weight of the law would be brought to bear on those attempting to derail the prevailing peace enjoyed in the state.

That was Muhammed Rabi’u at his best.On its part, Kaduna State Government said that CAN Chairman and other religious leaders had interacted with residents of the embattled community, and discovered that the sad story was completely false and fabricated.

That was the statement of deceit from Kaduna State Government. Similarly, acting the script, Chairman of Kajuru Local Government Council, said reports of investigations conducted by security agencies revealed that no such abduction was carried out.

That was a mockery of truth. From the above stated, the three tiers of government under a Tinubu presidency and APC in Kaduna State challenged anyone claiming that 177 people were kidnapped to provide identities of the abducted persons.

Rev. Hayab hurriedly jumped to action by providing irrefutable evidence of the kidnapped victims to prove that Kaduna State Government, Kaduna State Police Command and Kajuru local government chairman were not only liars but desperate to bury the truth for incapacitation to providing adequate security as expected.

It was a glaring case of disgrace to see that those supposedly in charge of security were forced by truth to swallow their own tissues of liars, deceit, and mischief and shamelessly admitted that indeed, innocent worshippers were kidnapped as exposed. Kaduna State Governor, gathered courage out of shame to visit the embattled area on January, 21, 2026 to commiserate with the community laced with deceitful promises typical of APC style.

Honestly, it is indeed not a good time for Nigerians. The basic responsibility of government is to protect lives and properties of the people. It’s no longer news that Tinubu’s government has failed in all directions of responsibility, the sad part of it, is that the government is now desperate to cover its glaring failure with lies, obviously showcasing a broken system with sad records.

A system is a unified whole composed of interrelated parts working together under a set of rules and regulations to perform a responsibility.

When any part of a system aches or fails to function, it affects the entire system and leads to the breakdown of the system. For instance, the national electricity grid controls the entire electricity supply in Nigeria. When there’s a problem in any part of the grid around the country, it leads to national grid collapse.

And when such failures or faults are deceitfully or incompetently communicated, it leads to communication breakdown. The Constitution of Nigeria, as amended, recognizes three arms of government –the executive, the legislature, and the judiciary. When these arms work together under the provisions of the Constitution and the Law, degenerates, and this may lead to systemic failure.

It is with consternation that Nigerians woke up to the sad news that the Tax Law that was gazette by the Executive for implementation on innocent Nigerians was forged.

A Bill that passed legislation but criminally forged by a government that claims to cater for the good of the people. There must be a hidden agenda attached to the Tax Law for Tinubu’s benefit. But when pressed further, the government as characteristic of its style, offered very unintelligent, unintelligible, illogical, and deceitful explanation to the criminal act had the bold signature of Tinubu on it.

Till this moment, even after the admission of the unholy alteration of a law duly passed by the national assembly, nobody is under investigation, questioned, apprehended or prosecuted for the ignominious act to the knowledge of Nigerians. And neither the national assembly took any offense due to its docility status. The government rather chose to proceed with the imposition of a heinous tax burden on an already dehumanized citizens surviving under a non-existing agenda tagged Renewed Hope, suffering from high electricity tariff rates without steady supply, high transport const, high healthcare cost, high education cost, high interest rate, high energy cost, high cost of foreign exchange, escalating insecurity and high of everything good for the comfort of the people. That’s what APC planned for Nigerians and implementing the plan piecemeal.

Within the government of Tinubu, the system has broken. Tinubu last year, boasted that the total revenue estimate of the year 2025 budget was realized at the end of August, 2015. Before the end of that year, his Finance Minister Wale Edun, publicly declared that it was only 25 percent of the stated revenue was realized. When he was quizzed to explain the contradiction between his facts and the lies of Tinubu, he smartly argued that it was only the non-oil sector revenue that was fully realized as of that time. May be he revealed that his boss, Tinubu, didn’t understand the difference between total revenue and non-oil sector revenue despite being an accountant.

For being too audacious to expose the incompetence of Tinubu, Edun was immediately deprived of the duty to decide on revenue matters to save Tinubu from future exposure.

Whether it was that exposure that helped to land him in hospital then after the drama, honestly, only Edun himself knows, but the incident reflects the incompetence, insincerity and brokenness of the Tinubu financial system.

The tendency towards a broken system manifested immediately Tinubu was declared president on March 1, 2023 by INEC under Mahmoud Yakubu adjudged the worst and most compromised INEC Chairman ever in history.

Rather than concentrating on forming his government and formulating policies for successful take-off of his economic policies and security challenges, he zoomed to e-vacation in France only to return few days to the inauguration ceremony where he declared the removal of fuel subsidy right on the inauguration ground without a cabinet to brainstorm on the consequences such sudden removal what it may cost the people irrespective of class status.

Next was the appointment of stooges as aides. The setting up of a cabinet lasted 60 days when Tinubunomics had been irrecoverably destroyed. When the system was broken, there’s nothing even the most righteous could do.

The damage had been done. Suffering, poverty and hunger artificially created and brought to the doorsteps of Nigerians as ‘punishment’ to learn a lesson in the hard way for rejecting better presidential candidates.

Continuing with this lacklustre attitude towards leadership of Nigeria even after his inauguration as President, though not genuinely elected, Tinubu spent 196 days overseas holidaying outside the country to note that anytime the president jets out of Nigeria, he fails, neglects, and vehemently refuses to transmit a letter to the National Assembly to empower his vice, Kashim Shettima to act as president.

This is why the incompetent handlers of Tinubu title his foreign travels, either as a working holiday or attending to crucial matters, to evade complying with his constitutional requirements, even if the main reason for his extensive foreign tours is believed to be for medical tourism.

A situation where Tinubu does not trust his deputy whom he personally chose for the position is a broken system beyond doubt.

Having no person to act as president in his absence, the country always grinds to a halt in his absence. This year alone, it has been a gory tale of tears and blood within these 17 days of his absence. On the eve of the New Year, nine lives were lost in Plateau State from terrorist bullets, even after security intelligence reports that there was going to be an attack. More than 55 persons were killed in Niger State. Same stories flew from Old Oyo National Park, Kogi, Zamfara, Edo, Katsina, Kano, Borno and Benue. The story in Kano was the gruesome murder of a mother and her six children. Kano, Bauchi, Gombe and Jigawa States were relatively peaceful until Tinubu took over banditry reached every unfortunate village.

Honestly, there seems to be no limit to the brokenness of the Nigerian system under a Tinubu presidency. Just last week, the United Nations declared that Nigeria has the highest maternal mortality rate in the world. That’s apart from being the poverty capital of the world. One out of 100 women that give birth dies. 56 percent of pregnant women deliver their children at home for absence of medical attention, because of poverty, high transport cost, dearth of qualified medical personnel, and a host of other factors within the control of Tinubu but ignored. He is more concerned with funding the jamboree of welcoming ‘bargained’ defectors of no value to the ‘colony’ of corruption (APC) across the states than attending to issues of national importance. Even the channel of joy to millions of families in the PDP controlled federal government, has now become channel of sorrow by the APC poverty, hunger and insecurity model.

Nigerians have to wake up and rescue Nigeria from the hands of APC grave diggers. We must insist for credible elections in 2027 so as to clear the venom from our system. Nigeria is truly becoming bad and uninhabitable, not because of the deadly actions of terrorists and pen robbers but because of the silence of the good people in Nigeria. We must be courageous to confront our silent killers in power to restore our pride and comfort!
