Nigerian IT ecosystem leads the AI innovation race at GITEX Africa

Nigerian startups are at the forefront of a titanic AI innovation race, providing creative digital solutions to solve problems that span continents. Next month, Morocco will host the largest tech and start-up event in Silicon Valley, showcasing the finest from the continent’s largest economy.

Nigerian technology is influencing the future of Africa’s emerging digital economy, from AI-powered diabetes care to SaaS (Software as a Service) platforms increasing agricultural profitability. At the AI Everything Expo by GITEX Africa 2024, the continent’s largest tech and start-up event, which takes place in Marrakech from May 29 to May 31, global investors will be enticed by the region’s tantalizing venture opportunities.

According to Statista researchers, Nigeria’s AI market value is expected to surpass $1 billion in 2024 and expand at a rate of 17% per year for the next seven years, reaching $3 billion by 2030.

At GITEX AFRICA’s AI Everything showcase, the continent’s most progressive power forum for AI exploration and deep tech innovation, strong venture capital demand and interest will amplify Nigeria’s audacious initiatives positioning the nation as a dominant force in AI and tech talent development. The tremendous AI growth potential in Nigeria will increase that demand.

One example of Nigerian-born innovation enabling clinicians to detect diabetic retinopathy early is FundusAI, Africa’s first AI-powered diabetic care ecosystem. FundusAI will be among more than 60 of the most outstanding Nigerian start-ups among hundreds of global start-ups at GITEX AFRICA 2024.

“Our product stands out as Africa’s first AI-powered ecosystem for diabetic care,” stated Abulmalik Adeyemo, the CEO and founder of FundusAI. By 2027, he hopes to diagnose over five million patients annually and broaden the platform’s application to include other eye health conditions.

“Treatment referrals, appointment scheduling, computerized diagnosis, and community assistance are provided by FundusAI. Furthermore, our gamified approach to data collection guarantees customized healthcare insights.”

Another Nigerian AI game-changer at AI Everything Expo by GITEX AFRICA 2024 is Farmatrix, a SaaS platform that uses cutting-edge AI algorithms to instantly link farmers with agro-commodity aggregators and buyers, significantly lowering post-harvest loss and increasing revenues.

Although AI adoption in Africa is still in its infancy, the continent is seeing an increase in interest in this game-changing technology as governments work to strike a balance between regulation and innovation while accelerating plans for AI talent development.

GITEX AFRICA is organized by the Moroccan Ministry of Digital Transition and Administration Reform, with support from the Ministry of Health & Social Protection, and hosted by the Digital Development Agency. It is held under the high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI of the Kingdom of Morocco. Following its groundbreaking debut in 2023, KAOUN International is organizing the second blockbuster edition.

The highly anticipated GITEX AFRICA conference program has over thirty esteemed Nigerian speakers who will accelerate international cooperation and investment prospects. Leading government figures in attendance include Dauda Lawal, the governor of Zamfara State; Akin Abayomi, the commissioner of the Lagos State Ministry of Health; and Nigeria’s Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Tunji Alausa.
