The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has issued a strong warning to the public regarding the increasing spread of fraudulent recruitment advertisements falsely claiming to represent the service.
In a statement released on Wednesday by DCI Kenneth T. Udo, the Service Public Relations Officer, and shared with Newsmen the NIS disclosed that scammers are using unsolicited messages, social media platforms, and unverified websites to trick unsuspecting individuals.
The release highlighted that these fraudsters are exploiting people’s desires to gain employment by promoting fake job vacancies and urging them to apply through unofficial channels.
These schemes are not only misleading but often result in victims losing money or providing personal information to fraudsters.
The statement, which was signed by the NIS Comptroller General, KN Nandap, expressed deep concern over the alarming rise of such illegal activities.
It reaffirmed that the Nigerian Immigration Service conducts all its recruitment processes in a fair, transparent, and merit-based manner.
Vacancies are only announced through official NIS channels, including the service’s official website, government-approved platforms, and recognized national newspapers.
The NIS emphasized that it does not engage in any form of recruitment through unsolicited messages or unofficial social media accounts.
The service is working closely with relevant authorities to track down those responsible for the fraudulent recruitment activities.
The individuals behind these schemes will face legal consequences once apprehended.
In addition, the NIS urged the public to remain vigilant and cautious when approached with job offers purportedly from the immigration service.
The Comptroller General advised citizens to be wary of any unsolicited messages and urged anyone approached by individuals falsely claiming to represent the NIS for recruitment purposes to report the incidents immediately. Reports can be made through the official NIS channels provided on their website or by contacting the nearest immigration office.
