Nigerian Army Probes Soldiers, Blogger Over Viral Welfare Allegations

—

The Nigerian Army says it has launched investigations into a viral social media post by blogger and influencer, Justice Mark Chidiebere, popularly known as Justice Crack, following complaints by some soldiers over feeding and welfare conditions.

In a statement signed by Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director, Army Public Relations, on May 2, and made available to The News Chronicle, the Army said the post brought to its attention grievances allegedly raised by troops but noted that preliminary findings indicated the soldiers also discussed a wide range of issues with Chidiebere, including exchanges it described as potentially inciting discontent within the ranks.

According to the Army, some of the conversations reportedly bordered on subversion, raising concerns over alleged attempts to influence military personnel in ways that could undermine discipline and national security.

It added that the matter is being investigated for possible breach of the Armed Forces Social Media Policy and alleged efforts to misinform the public.

According to the statement, both the soldiers involved and Chidiebere were taken in for questioning.

While the soldiers remain in military custody, the blogger has been handed over to civil authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The Army reaffirmed its commitment to the rule of law, stressing that it will continue to work with relevant agencies to safeguard national security while acting strictly within legal boundaries.
