Nigerian Army Kills ISWAP Leader Responsible for Recruiting Child Suicide Bombers in Borno

Nigerian Army have killed Mallam Muhammad, a commander of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) responsible for Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIED), in Sambisa Forest, Borno State.
The troops shot Muhammad on May 14, 2024 during a raid on the insurgents’ hideouts in Ukuba and Njimia, located in the Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to the Army, Muhammad operated a major fabrication workshop where he made various types of improvised explosive devices, including Person-Borne IEDs (PBIED), Vehicle-Borne IEDs (VBIED), and Roadside IEDs (RSBIED).
According to security source “Muhammad was known for sending many underage children on suicide bombing missions, convincing them that they would go to heaven upon dying. Tragically, he even used his three children as human bombs.”
During the operation, troops also intercepted a vehicle loaded with explosives intended to target advancing troops.
Despite the challenges of difficult terrain and the threat of IEDs, the Army stated that its troops are continuing their efforts to pursue and eliminate the fleeing terrorists.
Currently, the Nigerian Army is making extensive efforts to eliminate terrorists in the Northeast region of the country.
