The Federal Government of Nigeria has restated its strong commitment to religious freedom and national unity following a recent statement from the United States about religious freedom in the country.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday, November 1, 2025, the government said it remains focused on fighting violent extremism fueled by groups and interests that cause instability in West Africa and the Sahel region.
“We remain determined to tackle violent extremism driven by special interests that have caused division and decay,” the statement said.
The government offered condolences to victims of extremist violence and praised the Nigerian Armed Forces for their dedication and sacrifices in protecting the nation.
It also stressed that Nigeria will continue to protect all citizens, regardless of religion, tribe, or background, while highlighting the country’s religious and cultural diversity as a major strength.
Calling Nigeria a “God-fearing nation that values tolerance, diversity, and inclusion,” the government reaffirmed its commitment to unity and peaceful coexistence.
The statement also recognized the United States as an important partner and expressed hope for continued cooperation based on shared values like peace, freedom, democracy, and stability.
