Nigeria Launches DNEMIS Portal to Drive Data-Led Education Reform

Nigeria has taken what officials describe as a “historic step” toward a smarter, more transparent and accountable education system with the unveiling of the Digital National Education Management Information System, DNEMIS, and the launch of the DNEMIS Portal.

For the first time, the country now has a clear, unified and trusted data picture of foundational education, covering pre-primary through Junior Secondary School.

“You cannot transform what you cannot measure,” authorities said while announcing the launch. “This gives us the data we need to plan better, invest smarter and improve learning outcomes for every child.”

DNEMIS is the first major building block of the National Education Data Infrastructure, NEDI, a planned integrated education ecosystem intended to serve as “one source of truth for education” in Nigeria. As NEDI grows, it will connect data across every level of the education system, transforming how Nigeria plans, governs and delivers education nationwide.

The government expressed appreciation to UNICEF, the University of Oslo, the DHIS2 team, and all development partners for their collaboration and commitment to the project.

“The data is now in your hands. Explore the DNEMIS Portal, generate insights, ask informed questions and help drive better education outcomes across Nigeria,” the statement said.
