Nigeria, China Convene Top Minds to Shape Long-Term Partnership

The Center for China Studies, in collaboration with the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, on Tuesday organized a roundtable discussion on the book “Xi Jinping: The Governance of China”, bringing together policymakers, researchers, and scholars to deepen knowledge exchange between Nigeria and China.

Held in Abuja, the event was designed to explore governance models, policy formulation, and implementation strategies drawn from the Chinese experience. The gathering drew participants from government, academia, and research institutions.

In his opening remarks, Director of the Center for China Studies, Charles Onunaiju, said the seminar was conceived as a platform for long-term knowledge sharing and partnership between both countries. He noted that Nigeria and China are aligned not only in economic interests but also in the need for intellectual engagement and experience sharing.

Onunaiju observed that policy ideas are often abundant, but political will remains the missing link in implementation. “We might have the best policies but not the political will to implement it,” he stated.

He added that knowledge, experience sharing, and critical thought are key reasons Nigeria and China continue to align on development priorities.

“It is imperative to involve intellectuals in these conversations, and at this event we have assembled some of the best minds this country has to offer,” he added.

The roundtable forms part of ongoing efforts by the Center for China Studies to provide policy insights and promote mutual understanding as Nigeria-China relations expand across trade, infrastructure, and development cooperation.
