The Niger State Government has initiated the formation of 11-man committees for each of the 25 local government areas to oversee the statewide sale of assorted grains at a 50 percent discount.
This initiative was announced by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hajiya Binta Mamman, during a press briefing at the Government House in Minna on Sunday.
These committees consist of a diverse group of representatives, including a Member of the State Assembly, a Commissioner, a Special Adviser, a Council Chairman, a Permanent Secretary, as well as representatives from traditional rulers, organized labor, religious leaders, leaders of councilors, and security agencies.
The committees have been assigned several key responsibilities. They will determine the points of sale, decide the quantity of grains to be sold per household, and set the dates for the sales.
They will also coordinate the sales process to ensure smooth and peaceful throughout the state.
These terms of reference will be implemented considering the specific needs and circumstances of each local government area.
Hajiya Binta Mamman emphasized that all committee members are required to move to their respective local government areas to commence the necessary actions.
She also urged all residents of the state to remain calm and await the announcement of the designated points of sale.
This initiative follows a recent announcement by the State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, who, during a town hall meeting with stakeholders last Thursday at the Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi International Conference in Minna, declared the release of 1,000 trucks of assorted grains.
These grains are to be sold at a 50 percent discount to help alleviate the economic hardships and rising food prices faced by the residents of the state.
As of the past weekend, the trucks carrying the grains were being dispatched to their respective destinations across various parts of the state.
