NEWS FLASH: Civilian Casualties Reported After NAF Airstrike Hits Market Near Borno–Yobe Border

A Nigerian Air Force (NAF) airstrike has reportedly resulted in civilian casualties at a local market along the Borno–Yobe border.
The incident occurred on Saturday evening at Jilli Market in Yobe State, close to Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State. The market is known to attract traders and buyers from nearby communities, including Giedam, Gubio, Chiweram, and Benisheikh.
According to local sources, the airstrike was carried out during a military operation targeting suspected Boko Haram insurgents believed to be operating in the area. The insurgents were reportedly at the market to collect levies from traders and gather supplies.
A source told The New Chronicle that the fighter jet was tracking a group of suspected insurgents at the time but missed its intended target.
“The insurgents come to the market to collect taxes from traders and gather logistics. At least 10 people were killed, and others sustained injuries,” the source said.
However, the casualty figure remains unconfirmed. Injured victims are said to be receiving treatment in hospitals in Giedam and Damaturu.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigerian Air Force has not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
