New Feature Lets ChatGPT Users Personalize Their Experience with Traits

OpenAI has launched a new feature allowing users to personalize their ChatGPT interactions.
The update, which went live on January 9, 2025, lets users set specific traits for the chatbot, like “chatty,” “encouraging,” or “Gen Z.”
Additionally, users can provide information such as their preferred name, profession, and other personal details to make interactions more tailored.
This change is part of an effort to enhance user experience by making responses more aligned with individual preferences.
Although the new feature appears to be a redesign of the existing custom instructions menu, it still relies on prompt engineering, allowing users to define the style and tone of the chatbot’s replies.
OpenAI has clarified that the new personalization options are separate from its memory feature, which stores personal information for future conversations.
Despite some users reporting that the new features disappeared after being briefly available, OpenAI has not yet commented on the issue.
The feature is expected to help ChatGPT deliver more relevant and engaging responses, as the company continues to improve its AI-driven chatbot.
