New Anambra NMA Leadership Vows to Improve Doctors’ Welfare, Security

The newly elected Executive Committee of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Anambra State Branch, has pledged to pursue initiatives that will create a safer environment for medical practitioners to provide quality healthcare services across the state.

The new NMA leadership also vowed to promote members’ welfare, uphold professional excellence, and deepen engagement with stakeholders.

At the association’s just-concluded 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Scientific Conference, Dr. Ndubuisi Arua was elected Chairman of the Anambra State branch.

Other elected officials are Prof. Osita Umeononihu (Vice Chairman), Dr. Golibe Ikpeze (Secretary), Dr. Uzoma Okereke (Financial Secretary), Dr. Augustine Chinagorom Anugoh (Welfare Officer), and Dr. Faith Kenechi Nnaji (Assistant Secretary).

Also elected were Dr. Evuchiawe Chimobi (Treasurer), Dr. Ndubuisi Ibedu (Publicity Secretary), and Drs. Princeston Okam and Ifeanyi Obiaeli as Ex-Officio members.

Speaking after the election, Dr. Arua expressed appreciation to members of the association for the confidence reposed in the new executive, pledging to build on the achievements of its predecessors.

He said, “We express our profound gratitude to every member of our great Association for the confidence reposed in us during the just-concluded elections.

“We are deeply humbled by your overwhelming support and the trust you have placed in us to serve. We do not take this mandate for granted.

“We accept it with gratitude, humility, and a firm commitment to serve the Association with integrity, transparency, accountability, and dedication.

“We sincerely appreciate every member who participated in the electoral process—the contestants, the Electoral Committee, observers, supporters, and every colleague who exercised the right to vote.

“Your participation has once again demonstrated the strength of our democracy and our collective commitment to a stronger NMA Anambra.

“Now that the elections are over, we look forward to a new chapter defined by unity, collaboration, and purposeful service.

“The campaign has ended; the work begins. There are no winners or losers, only one united NMA Anambra committed to advancing the welfare and professional interests of all members.

“We pledge to work together as one Executive Committee, building on the achievements of our predecessors while pursuing initiatives that will strengthen our Association, promote members’ welfare, uphold professional excellence, and deepen engagement with all stakeholders.

“We respectfully ask for your continued prayers, wise counsel, constructive feedback, and unwavering support. Together, we can build an NMA Anambra that is stronger, more united, more responsive, and better positioned for the future.

The new executive also pledged to sustain collaboration with security agencies and other relevant stakeholders to ensure a safe and secure environment for doctors to carry out their professional duties across the state.
