The Kano State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has appealed to its members to remain composed following the exclusion of its governorship candidate, Aminu Abdussalam-Gwarzo, from the latest list published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The party said it was engaging with the electoral umpire to resolve the issue, expressing confidence that the candidate’s name would be included in an updated list.
The NDC’s Public Relations Officer in Kano, Yusif Fasaha, gave the assurance in a statement, attributing the omission to a technical problem rather than any failure on the party’s part.
“I want to assure you that as the PRO of the party, the problem is not from us.
“We have consulted the INEC and they told us that the problem was from computer, and they will rectify it.
“So, everybody should remain calm; as from now to Monday, another list containing his name will be out,” he said.
Fasaha maintained that Abdussalam-Gwarzo had met all the conditions required to participate in the governorship election, insisting that the party completed the necessary procedures within the stipulated timeframe.
He further disclosed that the party had examined the published list and would sustain consultations with INEC until the matter was resolved.
“We have seen the list and will continue with consultation on the matter,” he said.
The INEC list released on Saturday featured 17 governorship candidates alongside their respective running mates from various political parties.
Among those listed was Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, who appeared as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, with Murtala Sule-Garo named as his running mate.
Other political parties whose candidates featured on the list included the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Boot Party (BP), Action Alliance (AA), African Action Congress (AAC), Labour Party (LP), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), National Democratic Party (NDP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Action Peoples Party (APP), Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) and Action Democratic Party (ADP).
