NCC Vows to Enhance Telecom Services, Security
Dr Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has pledged to improve telecommunication services and ensure transparency in billing. During a breakfast meeting with editors in Abuja, he expressed the NCC’s commitment to addressing mobile access issues, focusing on fair tariffs and bills.
Maida emphasized collaboration with telecom companies to enhance nationwide communication services and resilience within the industry. Highlighting concerns about bandits using telephone lines for ransom, Maida assured ongoing efforts to secure the industry and combat the use of illegal SIM cards.
He announced plans to deactivate all SIM cards not linked to the National Identity Number (NIN) by the end of February, aiming to enhance data privacy and security.  Maida also stressed measures against the sale of illegal SIM cards, with a focus on making telecom services more secure.
Addressing spectrum allocation concerns, Maida clarified the NCC’s commitment to telecom spectrum, allocated based on recommendations from the National Spectrum Council. He appealed to the media for fair reporting, urging objective coverage and constructive criticism when needed. Maida’s vision aims to ensure not only improved telecom services but also the utmost security and privacy for consumers.
