National Assembly Set to Pass N58.472 Trillion 2026 Budget Before Easter Break

—

The National Assembly is expected to pass the N58.472 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill this week as lawmakers resume plenary after a short legislative recess.

Sources within the legislature disclosed that the Appropriation Committees of both the Senate and the House of Representatives are preparing to present their reports once proceedings begin.

The development comes as funding for the extended implementation of the 2024 and 2025 budgets particularly rolled-over capital projects approaches termination.

According to insiders, the report on the 2026 budget may be presented on Monday, with both chambers expected to consider and pass the bill either the same day or by Tuesday.

Lawmakers are also keen to complete work on the budget before proceeding on their Easter break later in the week.

The urgency is linked to plans by legislators to focus on political consultations and re-election campaigns ahead of upcoming elections, following the release of the electoral timetable.

A source within the Assembly noted that the Appropriations Committee has been working to ensure the report is ready in line with directives from the Senate leadership to avoid delays.

The Senate President had earlier urged the committee to expedite work and ensure immediate consideration upon resumption.

Although official confirmation from spokespersons of both chambers was not obtained, insiders maintained that the 2026 budget is likely to be passed before lawmakers proceed on their Easter break.
