Nasarawa Rep Jeremiah Umaru Dumps APC, Cites Injustice in Party Primaries

—

A member of the House of Representatives, Jeremiah Umaru, popularly known as Jakadan Wamba, has dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing alleged injustice, manipulation, and a collapse of internal democracy within the ruling party.

Umaru, who represents Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency of Nasarawa State, announced his resignation in a letter addressed to the APC chairman of Gitta Ward in Wamba Local Government Area.

In the letter dated May 28, the lawmaker said his decision was triggered by developments surrounding the party’s recently concluded primaries, particularly events in Nasarawa State, which he said severely undermined his confidence in the APC’s commitment to justice, fairness, transparency, and democratic principles.

According to him, it was disheartening to watch the steady erosion of democratic values within the party despite his years of loyalty, dedication, and personal sacrifices toward its growth and electoral success.

Umaru accused the APC of allowing imposition, manipulation, and the suppression of the genuine wishes of party members during the primary process, describing the situation as deeply disappointing.

The federal lawmaker stated that he could no longer, in good conscience, remain part of a system that undermines credibility, stifles fairness, and disregards the sacrifices and aspirations of committed party faithful.

Despite his exit, Umaru expressed gratitude for the relationships he built and the experiences he gained during his time in the APC, while wishing well-meaning members of the party success in their future endeavours.
