NAPTIP Investigates Suspected Trafficking in Jigawa, Intercepts Trafficker With 10 Minors in Taraba

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has commenced investigations into two separate suspected human trafficking cases in Jigawa and Taraba states.
In Jigawa State, the NAPTIP command said it is investigating a suspected trafficking case involving four persons handed over to it by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS). The state commander, Abdulkadir Turajo, disclosed this on Saturday while speaking with journalists in Dutse, the state capital.
Mr Turajo said the four persons were received on Friday after they were intercepted by NIS operatives at the Yanmaulu Border Patrol Base in Babura Local Government Area.
He explained that the suspects, aged between 22 and 27, include three females and one male, with three of them from Imo State and one from Edo State.
According to him, the command has launched a thorough investigation to determine the roles of those intercepted and to uncover the trafficking network involved.
“The investigation will determine whether those intercepted are victims, agents, or accomplices,” Mr Turajo said.
He added that the agency would provide counselling and other necessary support to the victims before reintegrating them with their families. The commander also commended the Nigeria Immigration Service for its continued collaboration in combating human trafficking in the state.
Meanwhile, in Taraba State, NAPTIP operatives have intercepted a suspected human trafficker with 10 minors in Jalingo, the state capital.
A statement issued on Friday by the Taraba State Commandant of NAPTIP, Mr Bako Amos, said the arrest followed credible intelligence.
“Following a tip-off of intelligence today, January 30, 2026, NAPTIP Taraba State Command, in conjunction with the Special Adviser to the Governor of Taraba State on Human Trafficking, Mrs Sarah Ishaya, at about 11:00am intercepted a suspected human trafficker with 10 children,” the statement said.
The victims and the suspect were reportedly intercepted at Kurmi Park, Jalingo, while allegedly preparing to travel to an unknown destination.
Mr Amos confirmed that the suspect and the rescued minors are currently in NAPTIP custody, adding that investigations are ongoing.
