The Nigerian Government has come under backlash following the surreptitiously and abrupt increase in petrol prices across the nation. The News Chronicle gathered that filling stations owned by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) have hiked the fuel price to over N855 per litre in the country.
Our findings revealed that the development was in compliance with a directive given by the NNPC management compelling an immediate increment of fuel price from N568 to N855.
Checks by this online media revealed, however, that while some filling stations of the NNPC are selling N855, others are selling N877 and N897 depending on the State.
Reacting to this development, Nigerians have taken to social media to express their frustrations over the insensitivity of the President Bola Tinubu-led government towards to the plight of the people.
Expressing pains and grief over the development, some X users wondered why the current administration that came to power under the mantra of Renewed Hope now dubbed “Renewed Shege,” keeps increasing the yoke of the people.
Sharing a video of an NNPC filling station selling fuel at N855 per liter on X, Rights activist and Lawyer, Inibehe Effiong @InibeheEffiong wrote: “Is this regime still favouring those who voted for and supported Emi Lokan and their families?”
