President of the Confederation of African Football, Patrice Motsepe, arrived in Senegal on Wednesday in what officials describe as a diplomatic visit, though it comes amid lingering tensions over the disputed 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final.
Motsepe is expected to meet with Senegal’s President, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, in Dakar before holding talks with football authorities led by Abdoulaye Fall.
Discussions are set to cover football development, infrastructure, and the unresolved controversy surrounding the AFCON final.
Where the national squad thought it had won before CAF later overturned the result, the tournament result is still painful in Senegal.
Though Sadio Mane worked to restore order on the field, the choice followed a protest during the game. Later, after awarding Morocco a 3-0 victory, CAF prompted Senegal’s football federation to contest the decision before the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
