Mohbad’s Childhood Friend, Primeboy, Sues Police for Violating His Rights

Ibrahim Owodunni, better known as “Primeboy” and a close childhood friend of the late singer Mohbad, has taken legal action against the Nigeria Police Force, claiming a violation of his fundamental human rights.

The lawsuit, which was filed on October 11, 2024, at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, stems from a recent police declaration naming Primeboy as wanted.

On October 4, 2023, the Lagos State Police Command issued a bulletin stating that Primeboy was wanted for failing to respond to their invitation regarding the ongoing investigation into Mohbad’s death.

Following this, Primeboy voluntarily turned himself in the next day. Despite his cooperation, his legal team argues that the police’s actions have unjustly tarnished his image.

In a statement released on Thursday, October 17, 2024, by his lawyer, Akinpelu Ogunbona, Primeboy is asking the court to compel the police to remove his name from the wanted list. His legal team asserts that the police’s declaration infringed on Primeboy’s right to dignity and respect as a human being.

“Primeboy has filed a lawsuit against the police via an originating motion at the Federal High Court, Ikoyi. We’re seeking a declaration that the special police gazette bulletin, which declared Primeboy wanted, violates his right to personal dignity,” Ogunbona said.

Additionally, Primeboy is requesting that his name be officially removed from the wanted list, along with several other legal remedies.

This lawsuit follows Primeboy’s recent threat to sue Mohbad’s mother, Abosede Adeyemo-Aloba, for defamation.
