Millions of Nigerian Phone Numbers At Risk of Forfeiture Over NIN Non-Compliance

—

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has issued a warning that over 40 million telephone lines, previously barred for failing to link to National Identity Numbers (NIN), may soon face forfeiture.
Reuben Mouka, the NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, revealed in an interview with that these telephone lines, barred by their respective telecommunication operators, have violated the commission’s February 28, 2024 deadline for linking Subscriber Identity Modules (SIM) to NIN.
Mouka emphasized that if the affected lines are not addressed within the next 180 days, users will be limited to texting and making calls.
However, after this stipulated period, the lines may face complete barring from making calls, potentially leading to forfeiture to their respective service providers within 365 days.
Users are urged to take prompt action to avoid any disruption in their phone services.
