Meta, the parent company of popular social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, faced widespread disruptions globally, leaving tens of thousands unable to access their services.
A Meta spokesperson, Andy Stone, acknowledged the issue, stating, “We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now.”
The outage not only affected Meta’s main platforms but also impacted the WhatsApp Business API, as indicated on Meta’s status dashboard.
Downdetector reported around 200 outage reports for WhatsApp, amplifying user frustration.
On X, formerly Twitter, users flooded the platform with memes related to the Meta outage, making it a top trending topic.
Elon Musk, owner of X, seized the opportunity to mock Meta, posting a tweet from Meta’s communications boss onto an image of penguins saluting, adorned with Meta and X logos.
As Meta works to resolve the issues, social media users continue to share their experiences and reactions, highlighting the widespread impact of the disruptions.
