Meta has announced plans to reduce its office space in Lagos, transitioning some employees to desk sharing as part of a broader strategy to optimize its real estate footprint.Â
This move aligns with Meta’s ongoing review to ensure that its office spaces are aligned with current business needs.
Meta recently laid off about 35 employees in Nigeria, including an entire engineering team of 24.
These layoffs are part of a global trend; in April 2023, Meta revealed plans to cut up to 4,000 positions within its technical teams, following similar announcements in February and November 2022.
Despite these reductions, Meta maintained its commitment to the Nigerian market.
The company emphasized that its long-term strategic priorities in Nigeria remain unchanged.
This trend is not unique to Meta.
Microsoft has also scaled back its operations in Nigeria, particularly affecting the engineering team at the Microsoft Africa Development Centre.
However, Microsoft stated that overall operations remain unaffected.
