Manchester United Teammates Support Broke Wes Brown

—

Several Manchester United players have rallied to support Wes Brown, who found himself in financial trouble just six years after retiring from professional football.

In 2023, Brown was declared bankrupt, largely due to trying to keep up with teammates who earned five times more than he did. His financial downfall was further exacerbated by his divorce, bad advice from friends, and poor investments.

At the height of his career, Brown earned around £50,000 a week at Manchester United, but his wealth seemed to have vanished just six years after leaving professional football.

“It’s a long story and I won’t go into detail, but it’s stuff that happened a long time ago with certain investments and getting into things that, as a young kid, a lot of people go into without really understanding. It’s what a lot of people are doing, and then it came to a head last year, and that’s how it went.

“It’s happened, and I’m just getting on with it, but it’s one of those things where you hope people, especially this generation, don’t get involved in.”

Wes, who started his career at Manchester United, stayed with the club for 15 years, winning almost 14 major trophies before moving to other clubs in 2011 and eventually retiring in 2018.
