In a significant coup for Erik ten Hag’s side, Manchester United has reached a landmark agreement with FC Bayern to sign Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt in a deal worth €50 million according, to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The agreement includes a fixed fee of €45 million, with an additional €5 million in add-ons. In a crucial step for Manchester United, the payment will be spread over three years, alleviating financial pressure.
De Ligt, 23, will sign a five-year contract with an option for an additional year, solidifying his long-term commitment to the club. The transfer is pending authorization for de Ligt to travel, after which he will join the team.
Notably, both de Ligt and fellow signing Noussair Mazraoui have been eager to join Manchester United since June, patiently waiting almost two months for the deal to materialize.
Experts believe that the signing of de Ligt, a highly sought-after center-back, demonstrates Manchester United’s ambition to bolster their defense and compete at the highest level. Permutations also have it that with de Ligt and Mazraoui on board, ten Hag’s side is poised for a strong season ahead.
