Man Remanded In Prison For Supporting PDP Guber Candidate In Nasarawa

One Comrade Markus Luka, a supporter of the People’s Democratic Party’s gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 governorship election In Nasarawa state, Dr. Emmanuel Ombugadu, who was arrested on Christmas eve has now been allegedly remanded at the Correctional Centre in Lafia the Nasarawa state capital. 

A family source who confirmed the incident, added that Luka was reportedly arrested at a Church premises in his hometown, Agyaragu, Lafia LGA, Nasarawa state over what was allegedly regarded as a ‘security threatening post’ he made on Facebook regarding the gubernatorial election battle of Nasarawa State now before the Supreme Court.

Luka, reported to have been a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC), switched to support Dr David Emmanuel Ombugadu, a former two-term lawmaker who represented Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/ Wamba at the House of Representatives.

According to reports, Luka’s supposed support for the PDP’s Candidate In the state was in the ‘best interest of Nasarawa State’.

It appeared that Luka insisted that PDP’s Ombugadu won the 2023 gubernatorial election and urged the Court to affirm his victory in order to safeguard democracy.

A source who pleaded anonymity was quoted as saying;

“He was picked during Church service by security operatives attached to Government House, and was taken to Lafia where he spent days in detention.

“Few days ago, he was taken to the Correctional Centre, Lafia on remand. He may likely be arraigned in Court on January 15”.

Until few months ago, Luka who only recently rounded off his MSc programme with the State owned University, in Keffi, had been an ardent fan of Governor Abdullahi Sule on social media.

It was gathered that Luka’s arrested was orchestrated by a kinsman and resident of Agyaragu who is said to have led the security operatives on the arrest that occured on December 24, 2023.
