Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, has initiated the second phase of distributing relief supplies to 90,000 beneficiaries in the state.
Prior to the distribution, Yahaya revealed that each of the 2,998 polling units in the state would cater to at least 30 individuals with food relief.
Regrettably, some troublemakers seized some of the distributed items as the governor and his team departed from Gombe Emir’s ground. The relief packages consist of bags of rice, cartons of spaghetti, and other essentials.
Governor Yahaya emphasized the importance of reaching those genuinely in need, stating, “This palliative we are giving should get to the needy, vulnerable people that are downtrodden and in need of this help.”
He highlighted that the current distribution, targeting 90,000 people, builds on the previous effort covering 420,000 individuals.
Expressing confidence in mitigating residents’ challenges, Yahaya urged the distribution committee to prioritize the truly needy.
“We shall address them as they come but all the same I want to advise the committee and the local people within us to make sure those in need are the ones that got this food so that they can help themselves,” Yahaya added.
Deputy Governor Dr. Manassah Jatau, who also chairs the Palliative Distribution Committee, emphasized that the relief is intended for the poorest of the poor, irrespective of political or religious affiliations.
The Secretary to the Government of the State, Professor Ibrahim Njodi, noted that the government has consistently formulated policies and programs aimed at directly impacting people’s lives since its inception.
District Head Nasarawo, Alhaji Usman Shettima, commended the governor for his empathetic leadership and timely relief efforts.
He asserted that the distribution of relief measures is vital in easing the hardship experienced by the individuals within the state, emphasizing the significant impact that the dispersion of palliatives can have on mitigating the suffering of the local population.
