A Magistrates’ Court in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, has directed that a 20-year-old vulcanizer, Victor Abba, be held in a correctional facility after he confessed to stealing yam tubers valued at 570,000.
We gathered that Presiding Magistrate Michael Bawa postponed the case to Nov. 26 for the final judgment, following the young man’s plea for mercy.
Abba was brought before the court by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on allegations of criminal trespass and theft.
During the hearing, the NSCDC prosecutor, Mr. Marcus Audu, informed the court that the case was first lodged at the Corps’ Kafanchan office by Mr. Zachariah Tachio on Oct. 20.
Audu explained that the defendant had consistently sneaked into the complainant’s yam plantation located in Zipak, a community under Jema’a Local Government Area, to cart away tubers.
He noted that the offences breached sections 313 and 270 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law.
