The Liverpool manager has updated on the nature of the injury sustained by Joel Matip after their 2-0 victory over Sheffield United. The Cameroonian was forced out in the 69th during Liverpool’s 4-3 win over Fulham on Sunday. The scans result have confirmed the defender has suffered an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament and could be out for the whole of the season.
Klopp told reporters at Bramall Lane: “It’s an ACL, ruptured, so that’s what I unfortunately expected from the first second. Everything looked like that. Very unfortunate.”
Mac Allister, who also picked up a knock in the early stages of their game against the Blades last night. The Argentine, who completed the first half, lumped off in the 59th minutes.
Klopp explained: “Macca, it was a shame. Early, he stepped on his knee, there was a cut. As long as the wound was open, we just strapped it, obviously, it was painful, but he could play.
“Then we stitched it, but then obviously it got a bit tighter there, and then he couldn’t move anymore. Now we have to see how long that will take. I hope not too long.”
Liverpool earned all three points away at Sheffield and are now two points adrift of league leaders Arsenal.
