Life Skills: AGILE Targets 87,209 Girls Across Zamfara

—

The World Bank-assisted Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project is targeting 87,209 adolescent girls in Zamfara State for its life skills program before the project ends in 2028.

Dr Salisu Dalhatu, Deputy Project Coordinator of the AGILE Project in Zamfara, disclosed this on Thursday in Gusau at the project’s bi-annual review meeting under Sub-Component 2.2A, the Life Skills Program.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the meeting was organized by AGILE in collaboration with the Zamfara State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.

Officials of the ministry, program facilitators, community representatives, AGILE officials and other stakeholders attended the review meeting.

Dalhatu said the meeting was designed to assess progress made in empowering adolescent girls across the state and identify areas requiring improvement.

He said stakeholders reviewed achievements, implementation challenges, and practical strategies to strengthen program delivery in the next implementation cycle.

“The life skills component is designed to equip adolescent girls with essential skills, knowledge, confidence and decision-making abilities that would enable them to make informed choices and improve their well-being.

“We are using this review to look at what we have achieved, the gaps, and how to do better in the next implementation cycle”.

“The sub-component has a statewide target of reaching 87,209 adolescent girls before the project closes in 2028,” he said.

Dalhatu disclosed that 11,100 of the 11,200 girls enrolled in Cohort One successfully completed the five-month training.

He said Cohort Two had 14,500 beneficiaries, all of whom had completed their four-month training and were awaiting their graduation ceremony scheduled for September.

Under Cohort Two, the programme targeted 14,500 girls. All the 14,500 beneficiaries enrolled have completed their four-month training and are awaiting a graduation ceremony in September this year.

“We are making preparations for Cohort Three, which is also targeting 14,500 adolescent girls,” he said.

Dalhatu said the life skills programme was designed to strengthen girls’ knowledge, confidence and ability to make informed decisions that could improve their wellbeing and future prospects.

He added that the review meeting enabled stakeholders to identify implementation gaps and agree on practical solutions to ensure that the project achieves its target before 2028.
