BREAKING: Diesel Price Jumps as Dangote Refinery Raises Gantry Price to N1,670

Dangote Refinery has raised the price of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), popularly known as diesel, to N1,670 per litre at its gantry nationwide, amid a sharp rise in global crude oil prices.

The latest price represents a N100 increase from the previous N1,570 per litre, translating to a 6.4 per cent hike.

The 700,000-barrel-per-day refinery, however, had yet to officially confirm the latest adjustment as of the time of filing this report.

The increase is expected to push diesel pump prices above the current range of N1,700 to N1,790 per litre in Abuja, with marketers likely to review their prices following the higher gantry cost.

The development comes less than three weeks after Dangote Refinery cut its diesel gantry price from N1,650 to N1,570 per litre on August 6. The refinery also reduced the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, to N1,165 per litre.

While the diesel price has now been reviewed upward, the refinery’s petrol gantry price remained unchanged at N1,165 per litre as of the time of reporting.

The latest adjustment comes as international crude oil prices continue to climb. As of 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2026, Brent crude had risen by about 2 per cent to $94.13 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) gained 3 per cent to $87.13 per barrel.

The rise in crude prices could further increase pressure on domestic petroleum product prices, particularly diesel, which is widely used by businesses, manufacturers and transport operators to power generators and vehicles.
