Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has confirmed to the press that the club has suspended Malian midfielder Yves Bissouma after a video surfaced on the internet showing him inhaling nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas.
“We’ve suspended Bissouma from Monday’s game,” Postecoglou said.
“He needs to rebuild trust with both me and the group. The door is open for him, but behavior is crucial.”
Three days ago, The News Chronicle reported that the midfielder had issued an apology after the video of him inhaling nitrous oxide from a balloon went viral.
This incident occurred after their preseason game against Bayern Munich on Saturday.
“I want to apologize for these videos. It was a blatant lack of discernment. I understand the seriousness of the situation, the health risks, and I take my responsibility as a footballer and role model very seriously.”
In the United Kingdom, nitrous oxide is classified as a Class C drug and its recreational use has been illegal since 2023, carrying a maximum penalty of two years in prison.
