Lagos State Receives U.S. Toxicology Report on Mohbad, Vows To Ensure Justice

—

The Lagos State government has announced that the toxicology report on the late singer Mohbad, conducted in the United States, has been completed.

This update was shared by the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro SAN, during a press conference held on Monday, October 21, 2024, at the Ministry of Justice Conference Room in Ikeja.

The press event marked his first year in office, and Pedro took the opportunity to address the public’s concern about the ongoing investigation into Mohbad’s death.

Pedro acknowledged the delays in the case, explaining that the extended time was due to the thoroughness of the investigation. “I understand there has been a delay in the Mohbad case, and that delay was necessary for the investigation process,” he said.

He went on to clarify that the delay stemmed from the need for comprehensive forensic analysis and toxicology reports, which are crucial to building a solid case.

According to him, these steps are necessary to ensure the investigation provides sufficient evidence that can hold up in court and lead to a conviction.

“The toxicology reports from the U.S. have now been received, and the autopsy results are with the Lagos State Pathologist and the Coroner magistrate,” Pedro added.

However, a further delay has come from Mohbad’s family, who have expressed their wish to conduct an independent autopsy. Despite this, Pedro assured the public that the trial would soon begin and that justice would be served.

The case has sparked public outcry and intense media scrutiny, with many people calling for a swift resolution. The government’s assurance that the trial will commence soon is expected to bring some relief to those seeking justice for the late artist.
